Voda za vedno is a nationwide Slovenian initiative led by the Canoe Federation of Slovenia (Kajakaška zveza Slovenije) since 2004. The project aims to promote the sustainable use and conservation of Slovenia’s rivers through environmentally responsible water sports. By organizing eco-recreational kayaking and canoeing events, the initiative raises awareness about the importance of preserving natural water resources.
The project takes place annually from April to September, with various events held on Slovenia’s most iconic rivers. Participants, including recreational paddlers, competitive athletes, and the general public, engage in guided river descents, clean-up campaigns, and educational workshops. These activities emphasize the ecological significance of rivers, encouraging responsible behavior in outdoor sports.
Through collaboration with local municipalities, environmental organizations, and schools, Voda za vedno fosters a community-driven approach to river conservation. The project serves as a best practice example of how water sports can be integrated with environmental education, ensuring that future generations can enjoy clean and vibrant rivers.
